The Chair Bites Back

A monstrous dining chair traps Rage while Ignatius heals him and Carver prepares a flaming spell.

Depicted moment

During Session 4, Rage tried to break a chair in Richten House’s dining room and discovered that it was a mimic. As the creature wrapped around him and bit deeply, Ignatius expended the cure wounds spellwrought tattoo Carver had created, while Carver brought fire magic against the animated furniture.

The illustration compresses several exchanges in the battle into one narrative instant.

Canonical status

  • Canonical Session 4 gallery art.
  • Party appearances follow the Darkon Party Portrait.
  • The mimic’s transformed anatomy, the tattoo’s visible glow, and the arrangement of the dining room are artistic interpretations.

In a spotless, candlelit gothic dining room, a carved wooden chair has opened into a huge tooth-lined mouth and wrapped its wooden limbs around Rage. The towering barbarian struggles upright with his greataxe raised. Carver aims a small orange sphere of fire from one side while Ignatius reaches from the other with gold-green healing light shining across his wrapped forearm and open hand.
