The Roads Only Rats Can See

Carver studies a sparse procession of rats crossing a wet Martira Bay street while a summoned badger charges after them and the black tower rises beyond.

Scene

Carver notices roughly a dozen rats following purposeful routes through Martira Bay and sends a badger from the Bag of Tricks after them. Their path leads toward a nest-lined hole in an occupied house, though its dark windows offer no answers.

Artistic interpretation

The precise street, number and placement of rats, view of the black tower, and summoned badger’s appearance are interpretive. The rats appear ordinary, and their purpose remains unknown.
