Depicted moment

At Castle Avernus’s threshold, a raven with exposed ribs descends to judge the party’s invitation. Above the four travelers, the broken fortress hangs together through luminous webs of stone and radiance beneath the red star.

Artistic interpretation

The castle’s exact architecture, the drawbridge approach, banners, floating masonry, and the corpse-raven’s pose are interpretive expressions of the structure breaking and repairing itself. A user-supplied legacy image inspired the monumental scale but not the final composition.
