The Cats of Watcher Library

Ordinary cats swarm Carver, Ignatius, and Rage inside Fiona Watcher's library while Chip breathes flame toward the tabby wearing the hidden-chest key.

Depicted moment

Cats swarm Carver from every side inside Fiona Watcher’s library. Chip projects his Flamethrower toward the key-bearing tabby, Ignatius fights through the curling vines of his failed entangle, and Rage uses his greataxe’s haft amid the chaos. The secret bookshelf door waits unnoticed behind them.

Artistic interpretation

The illustration combines the first attempt to catch the collared cat with the larger swarm that followed its death. It therefore shows eight ordinary cats active at once, including the key-bearer, rather than reproducing the encounter’s exact chronology. The library layout, cat coat patterns, curling vines, furniture, firelight, and visible secret-door seam are interpretive staging.

Canonical status

This is canonical Session 26 art. It preserves Carver as an adult humanoid tabaxi distinct from the ordinary cats, Chip as the only spectral feline and direct source of the Flamethrower, Ignatius as unarmed, and Rage’s single-headed greataxe. The brass key belongs to the ordinary tabby, not to Carver or Chip.

Alt text

In a dark wood-paneled library, eight ordinary cats leap, claw, and crowd around the adventurers. Two cling to the brown-gray tabaxi Carver while a calico rises before him. The blue-white spectral cat Chip floats at Carver’s shoulder and projects orange flame toward a leaping tabby wearing a small brass key on its collar. The horned black dragonborn Ignatius reaches through animated floor vines at left, while the towering bearded Rage raises the haft of a single-headed greataxe at right. A concealed double bookshelf door is visible behind them.
