Fiona Watcher’s Acolytes

At a glance

Followers recruited by Fiona Watcher through a supposed book club, devotional pamphlets, promised rewards, and loyalty to Strahd. Their leader and four principal cellar acolytes are dead, but the wider group’s survival is uncertain.

What they want

Serve Strahd and carry out Fiona Watcher’s plans, including an effort to take control of Vallaki through something involving the burgomaster. Any surviving members’ current leadership and aims are unknown.

What the party knows

  • Fiona described her followers as acolytes whose loyalty would be rewarded.
  • Her pamphlets called for trust in “the prince,” and she identified Strahd as the only true source of power.
  • Izek said Fiona’s previous plan culminated in the basement.
  • Izek also said a newer plan involved control of Vallaki and its burgomaster.
  • Four principal acolytes sat within a hidden ritual beneath Lady Watcher’s House while lesser cultists at the edge appeared to empower them.
  • The cultists invoked “the devil, Strahd” and conjured spiritual weapons during the battle.
  • The party killed all four principal acolytes and destroyed the skeletons guarding the root cellar.
  • One lesser cultist survived, claimed he had been misled, and was blinded, deprived of one hand, and castrated by Rage.
  • Fiona’s writings included a devil-worship manifesto and The Grimoire of Four Quarters.
  • Additional followers arrived in Session 27. Rage confined them in the basement; they rioted after seeing the bodies, and the party and Izek killed them on the stairs.
  • The company judged Fiona’s sons uninvolved. David also denied cult membership.
  • The house itself later animated and burned. No link between that event and the cult’s ritual has been proven.

Important figures

  • Fiona Watcher: Recruiter and leader, killed by Chip during the party’s confrontation.
  • Izek: Former defender who helped kill the arriving followers and left intending to return to the burgomaster.

Standing with the party

Hostile and badly broken. The company rejected Fiona’s invitation, killed her and the four principal cellar acolytes, and left one lesser participant maimed. Other followers may still exist in Vallaki.

Uncertainties

  • How many acolytes remain elsewhere in Vallaki?
  • What was the basement ritual intended to accomplish?
  • What was the intended move against the burgomaster?
  • Who, if anyone, can lead the group after Fiona and the four principal acolytes’ deaths?
  • Will surviving followers seek revenge, abandon the cult, or continue the ritual elsewhere?
