Vallaki Guard and Militia

At a glance

Vallaki’s guards, militia, and the burgomaster’s personal bodyguards, grouped here by their observed service to town authority rather than a confirmed formal organizational name.

What they want

They enforced Vargas’s authority and attempted to carry out his punishment of Lars. Their command and intentions after his death remain unknown.

What the party knows

  • Militia gathered around the bodies and ruins of Watcher House in Session 28.
  • At the festival in the town square, guards seized Lars for laughing, bound him, and attached him to a horse under Vargas’s order.
  • Militia and bodyguards fought the company during the rescue; Vargas’s mastiffs also charged into the confrontation.
  • Five militia or bodyguards were killed by Ignatius and Rage. Vargas’s death did not immediately end their attacks.
  • A guard laid down his spear after Ignatius called for surrender. The militia appeared to retreat several hours later, while the company sheltered at St. Andral’s.

Important figures

  • Vargas Vallakovich — dead burgomaster whose orders they enforced.
  • Izek — formerly served Vargas and celebrated his death; no new command position was established.

Standing with the party

The company killed the burgomaster and several of his defenders. One guard surrendered, but there is no recorded agreement with the whole force or assurance against reprisals.

Uncertainties

  • Who now commands the remaining forces?
  • How far did the surrender extend, and will the militia pursue the company?
  • What became of the mastiffs and other surviving combatants?
